TURNING FIELD SKETCHES INTO AUTUMN BOTANICALS
Time: Thursdays, 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM, September 28, October 5, 12, 19, November 9 and 16
Location: Walnut Creek Civic Arts Education, Shadelands Annex, Walnut Creek
Instructors: Peg Steunenberg
The warm glow of autumn light is reflected in the season's bounty -- acorns, seed pods, fruits, vegetables, brightly colored leaves, and autumn flowers. We will spend one or two days of the class (weather permitting) outdoors. We will collect material, make preliminary sketches, take notes, and observe how light affects an object and "turns" the form. After a session or two in the field, we will bring our material to the classroom and establish a composition for detailed rendering. Materials for rendering include graphite, colored pencils, and water-based media. A two-week break will provide time for independent work on the composition or for establishing a small, new composition for the returning period. The remaining two weeks of class will be dedicated to exploring innovative techniques, varied working surfaces and enjoyment of the process! All levels welcome. Detailed notes provided in class. Materials List available upon registration.

Please note: No class on October 26 and November 2

Enjoy the magic of bringing butterflies and hummingbirds to life in your own artwork! These pollinators are among the world's most beautiful and play an integral part in plant reproduction. We will explore in depth the anatomy and life cycles of butterflies as well as the structure and feather patterns of hummingbirds. This class can prepare you for matching these insects and birds with their host plants and nectar sources in the spring Beautiful Botanicals class. Working from museum mounts, we will use opaque watercolor and colored pencil to bring a jewel-like quality to your work. Materials List available upon registration. All levels welcome.
